Recent Questions about this product
From George Walker In Thornhill (11 February 2008)
  Q. How do I know the names of the tilles as shown? What thickness of timber is the floor, and are there any joists under the flooring?

  A. George,

Thanks for your question. The hexham tiles are the hexagonal ones. The bourne ones, are the rectangular shaped ones. Which cabin are you referring to regarding floor thickness? Floor thickness on most cabins is 20mm though.

Yes, there are floor joists that run underneath the flooring of the cabins. If you let me know which cabin you are after, I can send you a copy of the plans through to give you a better idea of how they are put together.

Kind regards, Blair

From Helen Inns In Cheshire (11 February 2008)
  Q. Hi, we do not need a log cabin, but need some bitumen roofing tiles. Are you able to sell these separately from a log cabin? If not, can you suggest were we might purchase some? Thank you.

  A. Hi Helen
We can sell them seperatly however there is an extra delivery cost, usually in the region of £40-£60 depending on where you stay, however as your in cheshire I would guess at £40, if you forward your postcode I can get you an exact quote.

From Glyn Lewis In Cardiff (10 June 2008)
  Q. Just built your Brighton 3X3 cabin and now putting the square shingle tiles on. Is the first course at the bottom the ridge / cornice tiles?

  A. Hi Glyn,

You should lay the bottom row first, and lay the ridge tiles last at the apex of the roof.

From Connor In Kent UK (16 July 2008)
  Q. Hi, Please could you tell me what tools and/or adhesive etc you need to fit these tiles. Or are they self adhesive? I am concerned about the rain getting into the cabin if the seal is not correct. Thanks, Connor

  A. Hi Connor,

The most secure way to fix the shingles is with tillers tacs/galvanised roofing tacs. Adhesives can become lose over the years. Or failing that, use both to be ensure the tiles to not blow off in stormy weather.

From William Cobb In eastbourne east sussex (17 April 2012)
  Q. Expecting delivery of cabin from you soon.

Are the bitumen roof tiles nailed directly to wood or is underlay supplied? Is any adhesive required?

  A. Hi William,

The tiles are supplied in rows of 3. We would recommend using galvanised roofing nails (tillers tacs) to affix the tiles direct to roofing boards. This ensures they are secure on the roof. Even the best adhesives on the market can loosen in 5, 10, 15 years time down the line, so always safest to go with nails. Investing in a nail gun would be a very wise idea if you are installing yourself, it is quite time consuming to secure all the roof tiles down. Sore on the arms if you are covering the entire roof with a standard hammer.

Hope this helps?

Kind regards,

Blair of the Gardeners World team
